Saudi Arabia Suspends Visas for India and 13 Other Countries Amid Hajj-related Concerns

Saudi Arabia has announced a temporary suspension of specific visa categories for citizens of 14 countries, including India, starting April 13, 2025. This suspension applies to business visit visas (both single- and multiple-entry), e-tourist visas, and family visit visas. The affected countries include India, Pakistan, Egypt, Yemen, Tunisia, Morocco, Jordan, Nigeria, Algeria, Indonesia, Iraq, Sudan, Bangladesh, and Libya.

The suspension is a response to the logistical challenges and congestion experienced during the 2024 Hajj season. Saudi authorities cited incidents where individuals entered the Kingdom on non-Hajj-specific visas and participated in the pilgrimage without proper authorization. This unauthorized participation disrupted the Hajj quota system and led to severe overcrowding, contributing to tragic incidents, including the reported loss of nearly 1,200 lives due to heat and crowding during the 2024 Hajj.

As a result, Indian nationals will not be able to apply for new short-term visas for travel, business, or family visits until mid-June 2025, when the Hajj season concludes. However, those who hold valid visas issued before April 13 are still allowed entry into Saudi Arabia, provided they depart by April 29.

Saudi authorities have emphasized the importance of having the correct visa for religious pilgrimages and warned that legal actions will be taken against those who violate the rules. The government is determined to prevent unauthorized participation in the Hajj, which is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the quota system and avoiding further logistical challenges.
